“Did we just lose power?” Buffy asked.

“It looks like the power is out for the whole camp,” Aries said. She peered out the window. She dug around in her trunk and found a flashlight. It was so bright that it lit up our entire side of the cabin.

“Where’s Tabitha?” Marla asked. I had forgotten all about Tabitha. She was never around. Even though she had made a horrible first impression, she was still technically in charge of us.

“Let’s go over to the Goldfinches’ cabin and investigate,” Holly said. She stood and motioned for everyone to follow her.

“No way,” Janice said. She firmly shook her head no. “Not after last time.” Holly looked mildly annoyed. She glared at Janice.

“Okay. Well, what if we just went out on the front porch?” Holly asked. Another crackle of thunder followed. A few of the girls screamed.

“I think we should just wait inside for Tabitha,” Charlie said. We all agreed. We quickly outnumbered Holly. We waited and waited for Tabitha to arrive. We missed our Afternoon Rec period. I skipped archery, which I was secretly happy about. Shower Hour came and went. After all that time on our own, we had run out of card games to play, hair to braid, and dances to choreograph. When dinnertime came, we started to get worried. And hungry.

“Should we just go to the Mess Hall without Tabitha?” Buffy asked. “I’m starving.” Then we all heard a loud knock at the door. We were so startled that none of us moved.

“That better not be a bear,” Buffy said. She pulled a blanket over her head.

“Since when do bears knock?” Holly snapped. I noticed she hadn’t moved to answer the door. Whoever or whatever was outside must have heard us talking and knocked again. They knocked louder this time. Aries leapt down from her bed with a grumble and opened the door. As she did, a huge gust of wind caused the door to fly open and slam against the wall. To our surprise, we saw Kurt. He still looked handsome despite being covered head to toe in soggy rain gear. Kurt held a big box covered with a tarp.

“Hiiii Kuuuurrt,” Holly and Tara said together. The other girls were really excited to greet Kurt, too.

“Hello, ladies,” Kurt said. He was still charming even when he was rained on. “I’ve brought you all some food. I’m sure you’ve heard that we’re in ‘stay-put’ mode for tonight.”

“What do you mean, ‘stay-put’—” Charlie began to ask.

“—Hey, ‘Pipers,” Tabitha said as she appeared out of nowhere. “Here I am. Lots of things to prepare with us being on hurricane lockdown and all.” Kurt eyed Tabitha suspiciously. He didn’t say a word. Tabitha’s eyes locked on Kurt. She smiled broadly as he handed her a note.

“Here are some instructions from Bob and Dotty,” Kurt told her. She quickly slipped the note into her pocket.

“Cool,” Tabitha said with more enthusiasm than we’d ever heard from her.

“Alright then. I’ve got some more food deliveries to make,” Kurt said after a pause.
